The United States has taken many steps toward combating the commercial sexual exploitation of children within our borders. The recent passing of the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act aggressively confirms that we will not tolerate those who seek to exploit our youth. However, staggering statistics and numerous stories from survivors indicate that our work is far from over.
In evaluating past steps taken and necessary next steps, Shared Hope International, ECPAT-USA, and The Protection Project of the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies (SAIS) are collaborating to organize and host a Mid-Term Review (MTR) April 3-4th, 2006 in Washington, DC. At the U.S. Mid-Term Review on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children in America, the United States government agencies, service providers, academics, policy analysts, criminal justice agents, and victim advocates will join to analyze government and private initiatives that protect U.S. children from commercial sexual exploitation and discuss ideas for further initiatives.
