Buffalo
Shared Hope International conducted an assessment in the Buffalo/Erie County area to examine the practices and procedures used to identify and deliver services to victims of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking - American children who are exploited for commercial sex. The Buffalo Assessment may serve as a springboard to action for the Western District New York Human Trafficking Task Force and Alliance and the community in order to prioritize the identification and response of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking victims in the Buffalo area.
In November 2006, the Attorney General announced that the Western District of New York was awarded funding from the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance and Office for Victims of Crime to establish localized efforts to combat human trafficking. As a result the Western District of New York Human Trafficking Task Force and Alliance (WDNY HTFA) was created. The Western District of New York Human Trafficking Task Force and Alliance provides invaluable training on issues of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking- the commercial sexual exploitation of American children- to law enforcement and service agencies. The ability of these entities to work together across disciplines and jurisdictions is commendable. Their commitment is critical in the fight against Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in Buffalo and Erie County, as is their continued effort to train any government, private, or non-profit agency that may come into contact with potential Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking victims.
