October 27

Operation Cross Country IV executed across the nation by the Innocence Lost Initiative this past weekend resulted in the rescue of 52 victims of child sexual slavery, adding to the nearly 900 child victims rescued in prior operations.  Shared Hope International is asking, “What will happen to these children?”

October 19

On Wednesday October 21 the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight will hold a hearing on the many forms of violence against women. Shared Hope International President and Founder Linda Smith (U.S. Congress 1994-98) has been invited to speak on the issue of sex trafficking – an extreme form of violence against women.

September 9

Throughout the month of September, public transit users will receive an important education on the realities of child sex slavery in America. This week, Shared Hope International will unveil End Child Sex Trafficking: Kids are NOT for Sale in D.C., a campaign that aligns with D.C. Human Trafficking Awareness month. Bright yellow signs in Metro buses, bus shelters and Metro stations scream messages, including “13 is the average age children are forced into prostitution.”

 

Shared Hope International will release a ground breaking report on child sex trafficking in the United States at the Congressional Human Trafficking Briefing on Capitol Hill hosted by the Human Trafficking Caucus and Victims’ Rights Caucus led by Congressman Poe (TX) and Congressman Smith (NJ), long-time advocates for victims protections.  Former Congresswoman Linda Smith (1994-98), Founder of Shared Hope International, will open a panel discussion on the findings of more than four years of research in America. 

July 2

Shared Hope International will release a groundbreaking report and training video on domestic minor sex trafficking at the upcoming Child Slavery in Our Community Leadership and Training Summit.  The Assessment of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in Broward and Dade Counties, Florida reveals that child victims of sex trafficking are being arrested for prostitution in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. 

June 12

On June 12, Shared Hope International will launch its End Demand: Kids Are Not for Sale National awareness campaign with a rally and candlelight vigil in Las Vegas. The campaign kick-off coincides with the release of Shared Hope's National Report featuring the latest disturbing findings on prostituted children in the United States.

Leading experts from Shared Hope International, an organization dedicated to the eradication of sex trafficking, are calling for prosecution and tougher penalties for buyers of sex from minors in response to the FBI’s announcement Monday of the rescue of 45 child sex trafficking victims and arrests of over 50 traffickers and some buyers.

November 19

Creating safe havens for trafficked children in the U.S. and increasing legal enforcement against child sex tourism in Canada should be two of the highest priorities for anti-trafficking policies in North America, according to a report published jointly by Canadian and U.S. nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) this month.

After completing 10 assessments of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking under a Department of Justice grant, Shared Hope International has exposed a nationwide crisis of child sex trafficking in the United States. Assessments in 10 diverse locations within the U.S. indicate the pervasiveness of American children trafficked domestically to meet a demand for commercial sex.

Shared Hope International has identified a startling trend: American children are victims of the sex trade and they are being trafficked within the United States. SHI research reveals that Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking (DMST) is a critical problem in many locations across the U.S.

In preparation for the first National Human Trafficking Awareness Day Shared Hope International announces the launch of assessments in 10 U.S. locations that examine the condition of America’s trafficked youth. These assessments analyze the identification and treatment of victims of “domestic minor sex trafficking” (DMST) and will empower communities to take action.
