Our goal is to liberate women in sexual slavery and bring them to full restoration. To accomplish this goal, we rely on the efforts of dedicated social service partners around the world, and of women who have been rescued themselves from the bondage of sexual slavery.
For SHI, nothing is more wonderful than watching a woman or child we have rescued come full circle-from a life of slavery, to a life fully restored. After seven years of life-changing outreach, we are seeing some of our earliest rescued victims now reaching out to other hurting women and children. Lifted from abuse, pain, and humiliation, these victims have become victors, triumphing over their past and now giving back in a significant way. The efforts of these rescued women are our most effective tool in preventing further victimization and reaching out to those in bondage.
(Read Stories of Hope from rescued women)
Through a local partnership, SHI has discovered an effective way to communicate hope and love to women and girls in the Red Light District of Amsterdam, Netherlands through Outreach Booklets. The booklets describe real life stories of women and girls who worked in the Red Light District and sex industry and have now found hope and restoration. By describing specific problems these women faced and their process of finding restoration, the booklets provide insight and support to other young women desiring to flee the sex industry.
To produce and distribute these booklets, SHI has partnered with the Scarlet Cord, a well-respected organization in Amsterdam. The Scarlet Cord has been reaching out to women in the Red Light District for over 15 years, providing them with services such as healthcare, counseling, temporary refuge and job skill training. They are also the only organization currently allowed into the Dutch school systems to conduct a sex-trafficking prevention program for at-risk girls.
These booklets are distributed by hand during the organization's work in the streets. When receiving the booklets, the women's demeanor changes immediately from stoic to one of gratitude, and a spark is seen their eyes. Last year, more than 300 women from the Red Light District contacted the Scarlet Cord seeking help and a way out of prostitution.
Because of such a positive response to the booklets, SHI is again partnering with the Scarlet Cord to produce another 1,000 copies of a new booklet in Dutch, English and two other predominantly spoken languages in the Red Light District. Rina Koops, a well-known Christian Counselor and writer in Holland, specializing in counseling women with these specific problems will author the new booklet.
