Courtney’s House is a new addition to Shared Hope’s partnership family for 2009-2010. This survivor-led organization exists to rescue and restore victims of child sex trafficking through strategic initiatives in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. SHI currently provides Courtney’s House with funding to rescue victims of child sex trafficking and establish a restorative shelter.
The Courtney’s House street outreach program identifies and rescues victims of child sex trafficking. Courtney’s House collaborates with local law enforcement to enable identification and prosecution of their exploiters. Funding from SHI allows trained volunteers to distribute small gifts to exploited women and children on the streets of DC. These gifts include compact mirrors with reference to a 24-hour hotline operated by survivors, providing victims with immediate assistance.
SHI is also proud to stand beside Courtney’s House as they open the first safe haven in D.C. specifically designed for child victims of sex trafficking. Slated to open in Spring 2010, Courtney’s House will operate as a restorative home for girls aged 11-17 years. This shelter will provide a therapeutic environment to ensure these survivors receive a holistic path to restoration through specialized services.
