The Czech Republic is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children trafficked from Ukraine, Russia, Eastern Europe, China and Vietnam for sexual exploitation. Trafficked Czech women make up the largest group of forced prostitutes in Austria and the third largest in Germany. Internal trafficking stems from low employment, and ethnic Roma women are at highest risk. Tourist border towns are becoming trafficking hubs. In 2004, Czech authorities investigated 30 individuals, prosecuted 19, and convicted 12 under national trafficking statutes. Local NGOs are developing a National Action Plan, shelter systems, awareness campaigns, and cross border projects to limit sexually transmitted diseases and drug addictions among prostitutes.
In 2009, the Trafficking in Persons Report classified the Czech Republic as a Tier One country, commending its’ full compliance with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
In the past, Shared Hope International worked in the Czech Republic on the Predator Project, which assisted in identifying trafficking victims as well as highlighting emerging trends and patterns in trafficking routes through Eastern Europe.
(I'd like to support Shared Hope International's life giving efforts)
